Whiter Than Snow
Today we are visiting family, and we woke this morning to a beautiful scene. The ground now blanketed in pure white snow brought Jesus to mind. It made me reflect on the only One who can wash our sins as white as snow.
Today the world over, many are celebrating the birth of the Messiah. But...to many of those celebrating, all they will ever hear about Jesus is the story of His birth. Albeit, a beautiful and touching story of the divine Christ coming to live in this lowly world as flesh...yet...there is so much more to know!
Before we ever read the story of a virgin birth; or of a child being born in a manger, or of wise men bringing tribute to the newborn, we read of Christ throughout the entirety of the Bible. In fact, He is the very One spoken of in the very first book of the Bible. Christ was there in the work of creation. His power can be seen in all that we see today—He “made all things.” (John 1:3) But, how can we be certain this was Jesus, the same baby born in a manger some four thousand years later?
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” John 1:1-3
But who or what is this “Word?” If we look only a few verses later we see the answer: “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14.
There it is! The only One who could fill this description of the “Word” is Jesus Christ. Jesus was fully man, and yet fully God; One capable of speaking worlds into existence, and at the same time able to live among fallen men and yet not sin. A child born in a lowly stable, nurtured and raised by fully human parents, a life always connected to His Heavenly Father, and the ONLY man who ever lived who had the power to die for the sins of the entire world so that any and ALL who call upon His name can have eternal salvation!
What a man He was, and what an amazing God we serve! To be both human, understanding of our every short coming, our human emotions and needs; yet being the only begotten son of God who holds the keys to help us overcome all our trials and tribulations and to provide the way of escape from any temptation that will ever face us, what an amazing thought! (1 Corinthians 10:13; Hebrews 4:15)
Today, the world celebrates a birth, but truly, that’s not the end—nor the beginning of the story. The beginning of the story has been etched on tablets and translated to us in the form of the Bible...and the ending of this story is yet to come but was also foretold in the Bible. The ending will be as glorious as the beginning and even more so than the middle on the day Christ was born!
The ending if we choose it, will be on that great and glorious day not far from now when this same Jesus...the One who created this world and every person who ever lived, the One born in a manger, the One who grew up to serve and heal hundreds if not thousands of hurting souls is the same Jesus that now sits at the right hand of the Father awaiting the time when He will come back to gather ALL those that have chosen Him as their personal Savior! He is the same Jesus that is waiting to come back for you and me!!
“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Hebrews 1:1-3
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
What an amazing day that will be, what an amazing God we serve, and what a gift if we accept it—to be purged and cleansed of our sins to become white as snow awaiting the day of Jesus return!!
“Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole;
I want Thee forever to live in my soul;
Break down every idol, cast out every foe;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
