When All Strength is Gone
Do you ever feel like saying to God: “I’m just not strong enough, I don’t think I can stand any longer...” I woke with that feeling one morning. With the sense that the struggle I had been facing at the time was going to engulf me. I didn’t want to stand any longer, and I didn’t want to fight any longer either. Then God spoke to my heart.
“Dear one, I see you. I see that you alone can not go on. But, I can walk with you now. I see that your strength is small. Yet, my strength is great. I can even carry you when your strength is completely gone-if you will only let Me. I am the God who frees the captives and parts the sea so you can walk on dry land. I am the God of miracles and healings—and I can do all of this and more for you too.”
Many years ago a friend of mine and I attended a funeral of a dear woman’s mother. As we sat listening to the eulogy the pastor said something that struck us both as extremely powerful. He made the comment that in times of sadness and challenges you may feel you can’t go on. But God says you can. God wants you to fully submit to Him as a baby lion would it’s mother. With complete tenderness and compassion you can see the loving, yet extremely powerful lioness pick up her cubs one by one with her sharp teeth, yet never harm nor injure one of them. And the young cubs simply hang in her grasp with complete trust and submission until she decides where to place them. This is how God wants us to trust Him, because He promises, He will never harm us nor forsake us either.
Dear tried and hurting soul maybe you also woke with the sense that you couldn’t go on. Listen to the words of your Savior when He tells you to: “Cast your burden on [Him], and He will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved.”Psalm 55:22
And to “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.” Psalm 34:17-19
He truly means what He says in His word. You can trust the God of all creation; your Heavenly Father to care for you with infinite tenderness. Though He is the Lion of Judah-full of power and justice, He is also your merciful and compassionate creator, friend and father, who longs to “work all things out for your good” (Romans 8:28). When you submit and allow Him full control, He is able to place you with His tender care, in the best possible place for your healing and for His glory!
