Racial wars, pandemics, media sensationalism, natural disasters and ensuing fear...it abounds. But the reality of why is hidden from many. We are not facing a race issue over one incident or a fear issue due to pandemics or even the media...the problem is much, much larger!
We are facing a sin and obedience issue. Every single person on earth was created with free will, and every single person on earth is a sinner. (“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23) And...God never has nor never will force His creation, us, to do good or choose the better, higher path. He loves us too much to force us-He desires love and praise from a free heart. He created us to have complete free will...but sadly this for some of us will mean the free will to ruin our own life as well as the lives of others...if that’s what we choose. Does God desire that for His children? Absolutely not! But, in His mercy and grace, He won’t force us to love Him or His ways...we will either have to choose Him or deny Him out of our own free will.
So, the only real and lasting solution to all the chaos today is to make a choice—the choice to accept God and with His help, follow His ways. The only “real vaccine” for this fallen world is the healing salvation of Jesus Christ! This, and this alone is the ONLY thing that can save us.
The world’s philosophies are different than God’s. The world says: “just do it,” and “follow your heart,” but God says: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked...” (Jeremiah 17:9) God teaches us not to trust our feelings or our emotions but to trust implicitly in His word, even when we don’t “feel” like it! And...not just to trust His word, but also to be obedient to His Word (“If you love me keep my commandments” John 14:15. We obey Him not as legalism but because we love Him!)
What truth is found in the words... “where sin abounds grace abounds much more,” (Romans 5:20) but God is the same God who also said: “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48) Praise Him, He is a balanced God—He not only forgives us when we sin out of ignorance, but He is the same God who refuses to leave us in our sin, and that opens our eyes to it and calls us higher once we know what He is asking of us!
Surely Abraham didn’t “feel” in his heart that he wanted to offer his promised son as a sacrifice to God...who would! (Genesis chapter 22) But, the Word of God told him to do it—so he obeyed. And God says this “obedience” was “real faith!” (Hebrews 11:17)
When we see people angry, fighting, burning buildings, defying authorities, or people fearful to leave their homes, or in extreme fear willing to burn churches to keep people from congregating...we shouldn’t be surprised...this is sin reaching a crescendo. It has been coming for quite some time. We are told in the Bible that in these last days “because iniquity (sin) shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” (Matthew 24:12) God is telling us to “...know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. Men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good...lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5) But we are commanded: “...from such turn away!”
We are also told that despite well meaning sentiments such as: “pray for the world to be a better place,” or if we pray “our country will return to its glory,” this isn’t in the overall plans for our world. (Not that we should ever give up praying for the lost in our world to repent and turn to Christ!) God’s word tells us this world is waxing old, it is now groaning (Romans 8:19-22) and will soon cease to exist as we know it. And that a day is coming when an end will be put to the sin problem.
Though this could seem fearful it is actually one of the greatest promises God has given us. The promise is this....that the son of God will “return in the clouds”... “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” God knows this will be the most glorious event ever, and so He tells us to: “comfort one another with these words!” (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18 and Revelation 1:7)
A day is coming, and soon, when God will wipe away ALL tears and there will be no more sorrow nor pain (Revelation 21:4). What does that really mean? It means God doesn’t desire for people to fight one another; so when this time comes there will be no more war. God doesn’t desire us to be disrespectful or hateful, so in this better place we will no longer see children in rebellion or adults rioting. God hurts when we kill and destroy...but when He returns there will be no more death nor loss...only peace and safety! Can you even imagine it? It is almost unthinkable. But God wants us to ponder these things, He hopes deep inside we will long for this...because He alone offers the way for this to become a reality!
“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32) Again, all we have to do is accept this gift out of our freedom to choose.
Today, we don’t have to worry. Yes, we will see sorrow in this world increase, and all the more until our Savior returns. We are just now in the “beginning of sorrows.” (Matthew 24:3-14) But, hold fast till He comes, because the promise is sure and great! There is a better land awaiting ANY and ALL who will accept Jesus as their Savior. He promises to save us even amidst the pain and chaos.
He will accept you as you are and even change you into His likeness as you allow Him to work His good pleasure in your life! (Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6) One day soon He will return to take you to a better place where you can reign with Him in peace forever and ever...all you have to do is choose Him! (If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us...2 Timothy 2:12)
God never lies...He has promised, and He will fulfill the promise...”In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” So...”Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” (John 14:1-3)
