Our Hearts Don't Fail
Updated: Aug 4
An update from our small corner of the world...praying for the people of Guyana, and many others in various parts of the world who are experiencing trials right now...
It seems no one is too far from possible chaos these days. You would have to completely hide yourself to be unaware of the events unfolding around the world, and in increasing succession.
If it’s not the latest coronovirus, it’s massive wildfires; it’s tornadoes destroying communities; it’s hurricanes barreling down on entire cities. Every nation, community, village, city or town is susceptible to disaster.
The truth is: there is no “safe” place...except in the center of God’s will!
The latest from our corner of the world is now in the form of civil unrest. We have been advised to stay close to home due to rioting, and violence in the capital city over unsettled election results. Sadly, some have already died because of the problems:(
But, our hearts don’t fail. We know that God is not blind to the affairs of man. And, now is not the time to “grow weary,” even though the world may seem to fall around us.
The Bible tells us now is the time to watch and to pray. Jesus commands His followers in these last days to be vigilant—to “watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.” (Matthew 26:41). And again we are told: “watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. (1 Corinthians 16:13)
As Christians we are not left in the dark (praise the Lord) as to what is happening all around us.
We are clearly told in Jesus own words...
There will be “upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity...[and] men’s hearts [will] fail them from fear [because of] the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth...” (Luke 21:25-26) If you read or watch the news, you can sense the fear these disasters are creating in people’s hearts...even for the Christian, yes things could seem overwhelming at times. But, God has given us the Bible to guide us through times like these.
He even tells His followers specific things to look for in the last days before He returns. What a loving God! (The battle between good and evil will play itself out, but praise God, the devil won’t be allowed to continue this chaos forever!)
“And you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” (Matthew 24:26)
“For nation will rise against nation...And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.” Matthew 24: 7, 10, 12
“Therefore...be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24:44)
“...when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.” (Matthew 24:33)
And again, Jesus says...”So...also, when you see these things happening, know that it (Jesus’ return) is near—at the doors!” (Mark 13:29)
However, for those seeking with their whole heart to follow the Lord, there is no reason to allow this to cause fear. He clearly tells us that fear of this kind is not from Him! (For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7) Instead, we are to use our “sound minds” to discern the “signs of the times,” and to be ready for His soon return. This is actually a wonderful hope to the Christian! To be with our Savior in heaven, for eternity where there will be no more tears, nor pain, nor suffering...ever again!
And if you aren’t following the Lord with all your heart, seeing these things hopefully will draw your mind heavenward creating a desire to know the Only One who can ultimately save you through this chaos...and who has been lovingly pursuing you your entire life.
This is why Jesus tells us: “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:28)
He is telling us, watch and be ready, help is on the way! He lovingly calls us to hold fast to Him, to keep our eyes open (to be “wise as serpents, and gentle as doves”), and to keep our hearts from sin with His help, as we prepare for that amazing day that is soon to come!
Do not faint, do not fear...but hold fast to your faith, “...he who endures to the end shall be saved.” Matthew 24:13
The end is not yet...but from the amazing stories we have been hearing of how the Good News is spreading, it seems it won’t be long!
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)
Prayer is our great weapon in the days when trials hit...so we continue to bow the knee as each new wave comes knowing that it won’t be long now before we are called up “to meet with our Lord in the air,” (1 Thessalonians 4:17) “...and so we shall ever be with [Him].” What an amazing day that will be!
