Designed to Thrive
While out weeding in the garden one day I placed the weeds I was pulling out near an old log that had been tossed on a pile to burn.
As I was looking at the log I noticed grass growing out of the log where patches of dirt had formed in its crevices over the years.
Amazing. Grass growing out of the side of a dead log. It speaks volumes to how desperately creation yearns to thrive. I remember years earlier seeing something similar while out walking near some rock cliffs. Periodically a lone tree could be seen growing directly out of the solid rock, where small plots of dirt had accumulated, I supposed likely brought by wind or rain. The same thought struck me then too...how amazing it was to see life existing in the barren desert, and even more so springing forth out of sheer rock walls.
God created everything we see in nature. And He designed them to live and thrive. However, in our fallen world trees die, grass withers and land becomes desolate. How wonderful that even in these barren circumstances life still finds a way to exist! It is truly amazing.
God created and designed not just the natural world but also each person who has ever lived. So, if your life begins to feel “barren” or desolate, remember, God also designed you...and He created you to thrive, no matter your circumstances! Like the sprigs of grass that refuse to stop growing, or the lone and isolated tree that digs its roots deeper, and deeper still until it has a firm grasp and foundation, never give up. Allow your roots to dig deep in the sure foundation of Christ, and as you do so, you will find life and life more abundant!
“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
“...like a man which built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, [it] could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.”
Set your foundation on the rock of Christ, and you cannot fail!
“He is the rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgement: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.” Deuteronomy 32:4
